who we are
Learn More About Our Story
Muth and Mumma was founded by John Muth and James Mumma in 1929 to support the local community with its dental healthcare needs. Shortly after its founding, Muth & Mumma became the primary producer of dental restorations for the military operations across the East Coast. During this time of service, the laboratory employed 200 technicians working in a four story 70,000 square foot building located in downtown Harrisburg, PA. In 1972, hurricane Agnes dumped 16 inches of rain in 24 hours flooding a large part of Harrisburg as the Susqehanna river overflowed its banks and storm drains backed up. When the waters receded, the staff returned to work to discover that thousands of cases were destroyed as the bottom two floors were covered in mud and debris. Within six weeks, the lab was cleaned up, rebuilt and open to fabricate restorations for patients once again. Muth & Mumma operated in this facility until 1987, and then it was moved to a new location to allow better access for our customers.
Today, NDX Muth & Mumma continues the legacy created nearly a century ago. We are a full service laboratory providing locally produced restorations while leveraging the power of the NDX network for specialty products such as sleep, cast partials frames and orthodontics. We support our doctors from case planning to final delivery going chairside to assist patients and clinicians.
